The largest shopping centre in Portsmouth is currently the Cascades centre off Commercial Street in the heart of the city. Some of the larger High Street stores you will find located here include; BHS, M&S, Primark, The Early Learning Centre and Woolworths. Opened in 1989, their are a total of over 50 stores with the emphasis on clothes shopping rather than household goods.

The centre is open Monday to Saturday 09:00 to 17:30 and Sundays 10:30 to 16:30. It has its own car park with spaces for 540 vehicles; there are also other car parks nearby. Buses stop outside the main entrance and it’s even only a 10 minute walk from the ferry ports and main railway station.

The other major shopping centre in Portsmouth is Gunwharf Quays, which is also a leisure centre containing a cinema complex, restaurants, bowling alley and much more. Gunwharf Quays uses its waterfront location to style itself as a cosmopolitan and designer centre, with the accent very much on clothes and accessories.

For a range of smaller/independent traders you could visit Albert Road in Southsea. Being an actual road of shops and with a wide variety of shops and cafes it can more realistically lay claim to being cosmopolitan. Albert Road is an area ‘fighting back’ against the tide of the shopping mall culture. Finally, the Port Solent shopping centre at the The Broadwalk Marina in Portsmouth contains a small number of shops mainly catering for the tourist trade. With a city re-development planned, the area around Commercial Road in the city centre remains a major shopping area in Portsmouth.

Most of the major High Street chains have stores here. However, to find nationally known department stores in Portsmouth, you’ll virtually have to cross the city to the south side and go to Palmerston Road, which is another area where you’ll find a lot of familiar names in High Street shopping. Here you’ll find the two department stores in Portsmouth.

In a bid to revitalise the city, Portsmouth is currently undergoing a massive city centre re-development which is due to be completed in 2010. This began in 2004 with the demolition of the old Tricorn shopping centre. When completed the development will be known as the Northern Quarter.

Camping has become very popular in recent years thanks to milder weather and improved equipment. The best places to camp in the UK have beautiful views and a wide variety of landscapes and activities.

South England

Dorset is certainly one of the best places to camp in the South of England. Burnbake is ideal for those with children. It has a woodland setting with lots to do and excellent facilities. Some children can get bored when camping but Burnbake has plenty of activities to keep them occupied.

North England

The Lake District is an obvious choice for campers in the north of England. Low Wray in Windermere is a beautiful spot to pitch a tent. There is a nice wooded area by the lake shore which is ideal to setup camp. The lake looks fantastic on a summers evening when the setting sun’s rays cascade off the water. A short walkaway offers panoramic views of the countryside.

Coniston is another excellent option in the Lake District. At Coniston Hall the water is very clear and there is even a private beach. The village close by has won the award of Britain’s best village on more than one occasion. It is a nice walk to the shops to purchase supplies and there are endless opportunities for those who wish to explore the countryside.

Scotland

The Big Sand Holiday Centre in Gairloch, Highlands is nestled away in the sand dunes. This protects it from the harsher elements which are often associated with Scottish camping. There are plenty of nice places to eat close by and the beach is excellent for activities or a long walk.

Wales

Glanllyn Lakeside in Bala is a popular spot in the north of Wales. This is one of the best places to camp in the UK for those that enjoy water sports. It is situated on the banks of Lake Bala which is in the Snowdonia National Park. Windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and even swimming are just some of the popular activities on offer. Tryweryn National Whitewater Centre is just 5 miles away from those that enjoy rafting. The area is also ideal for bicycle rides.

Venture capital represents financial investment in a highly risky proposition in the hope of earning a high rate of return. While the concept of venture capital is perhaps as old as the human race, the practice of venture capitalism has remained somewhat fragmented and individualized through its long history. Only in the last four decades or so has the field of venture capital acquired a certain coalescence, maturity and sophistication, particularly in the US.

The origin of venture capital in its modern form may be traced to General Doriot, who established the American Research and Development Fund at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1946, to finance the commercial exploitation of new technologies developed in US universities. The small business act of the US permitted the Small Business Administration to license and even support financially small business investment companies engaged in venture capital finance, provided fuel to the growth of venture capital finance.

Larger companies in the US like Xerox, 3M and General Electric entered the field with their venture capital divisions. These examples from the US stimulated the development of venture capital throughout the world. Though the initial efforts made in the early seventies to introduce venture capital were rather unsuccessful, the changed environment of the eighties witnessed a phenomenal growth of hi-tech industries and provided a fertile ground for the blossoming of venture capital.

Venture capital plays a helping hand in the financing of startup and early stage businesses, as well as businesses in “”turn around”" situations. Firms raise funds from different sources. Some funds like share capital are kept permanently in the business. Some funds like debentures are kept for long periods; while some funds are kept for short periods. The entire composition of these funds in an organization is generally termed a financial structure. Generally, the short-term funds are excluded since they are shifting often and the composition of long-term funds is known as capital structure.

The UK locksmiths industry could best be described as being in a state of crisis. In most countries a locksmith requires a license, if you carry the tools and equipment to gain entry to or open almost any lock or property then some sort of regulation is undeniably necessary. Sadly this is not the case in the United Kingdom. Any one in the UK can set themselves up and advertise there services as a locksmith, they don’t need a license and they don’t need to be answerable to any governing body beyond the broad guidelines set down by British trading standards. The UK locksmiths industry is gradually becoming saturated with poorly skilled, poorly trained and poorly equipped so called locksmiths.

As locksmiths working in Surrey, Kingston and London every year we see new companies starting up in our area of coverage. Many of these companies fail to see out a year in the trade, some do however do better. So why is this happening? There is no legislation to regulate the training of locksmiths in the United Kingdom. there are now countless locksmiths training schools scattered across London and Surrey offering two day training courses and claiming in that in those two days they will be able to learn everything they need to start up and trade as a locksmith. So you can learn everything you need to know? It used to take an apprentice locksmith five years or more before they were considered well versed in the locksmiths trade.

This influx of badly trained two day wonders is gradually strangling the industry, taking work from well established and highly skilled locksmiths and at the same time ruining the reputation of the trade with bad workman ship and excessive prices. So is there anything that can be done to counteract this trend? there are currently only two recognized official bodies for locksmiths in the UK, The Institute of Certified Locksmiths and the Master Locksmiths Association. Both of these bodies actively persue tighter regulation within the UK locksmiths industry with a hope to achieving licensing for locksmiths in the future.

Thoughts of the United Kingdom are laden with visions of Big Ben, Parliament, and other historic sites; however, bright, sunny days usually aren’t the first thing someone thinks of. Maybe this is because the UK does not have an abundance of them. In fact, until July 2008, photovoltaic energy, or renewable energy created from the use of solar cells, was not deemed a viable alternative to current energy sources. In addition, grid electricity was relatively cheap in comparison to other countries in Europe. In fact, the United Kingdom represented only 0.3% of Europe’s photovoltaic energy production as recently as 2006.

This changed in 2008 when the European Union agreed to produce 15% of the continent’s electricity by means of renewable energy by 2020. In June of 2008 homeowners in the United Kingdom received an incentive to install solar panels containing solar cells by way of a program that involves feed-in tariffs. The incentive program is not a feed-in tariff program in the strict sense of the term. Homeowners who install solar panels will be allowed to sell surplus energy back to the grid at a premium rate. Because the electricity sold is extra, a commercial feed-in tariff does not apply.

After much campaigning in the United Kingdom by concerned homeowners and environmental groups, the government revealed its plans to reward those who install solar cells to produce renewable energy in order to power their homes. The upfront investment is considerably large, near the £12,500 mark, but those who institute a photovoltaic system in their homes will receive a 7-10% return, tax-free. Best of all, since the return is percentage based, it will compensate for inflation by rising along with income. The United Kingdom has guaranteed payment for the next 25 years, ensuring more money returned to the homeowner than they invested. More importantly, not only does the investor of solar cells benefit from their use, the environment can breathe easier as well.

Solar cell incentives in the United Kingdom have reached the schools as well. The Green Energy for Schools program will provide solar panels to 100 schools around the UK. Tavernspite School, located in the Welsh town of Whitland received £20,000 worth of panels capable of an annual production of 3,000 kW. Though Whitland boasts many sports teams, they lost their dairy and one railway line, both of which provided the town with much of its income. By focusing on the proliferation of solar cells and solar panels, Whitland and the entire United Kingdom may generate goodwill as well as renewable energy for the future.

Business owners and event coordinators know the importance of choosing the right conference venues for upcoming company events. The site you choose can say a lot about the focus of an event and the overall goals of your business. The conference venues you consider should be of an appropriate size for the event. Is it a small business meeting with people from surrounding offices or a week-long convention bringing together executives from across the country? The bigger the event and the further attendees have to travel, the bigger the venue needs to be. Overnight accommodations and nearby restaurants or catering services may be necessary when hosting visitors from out of town.

Business events can range from light-hearted gatherings where socialization is as important as the agenda, to serious endeavours with concrete goals that must be met during the course of the event. Conference venues are available that cater to both types. In order to make the right choice, it’s important to keep in mind what you hope to accomplish during an event when seeking out locations. To accomplish the goals of a business event, conference venues must reflect the appropriate atmosphere. A lavish location decked out in cheery themes and surrounded by natural beauty may be tempting for a big business conference but could be quite distracting for attendees. On the other hand, rows of desks in cramped rooms with drab colors or poor lighting can breed boredom or restlessness. Finding the right balance between business and leisure can contribute greatly to the success of your company event.

Online skin care schools offer courses for working adults to change a career or to advance an existing career. Skin care technicians (also known as Estheticians) are in demand in beauty salons, spas, and private practices. Online distance learning skin care courses focus on the study of all aspects of skin; skin structure and natural health; and on skin conditions, treatments, and care. Online skin care programs teach basic biology, cellular components of skin, normal skin and adjoining systems, common dermatologic disorders (birth marks, acne, discoloration), skin diseases, and general routine components of good skin care.

Online courses in skin care may include discussions of skin layers (epidermis and dermis), immunology, skin infections, pigmentation, healing, hair and nails, cosmetics and beauty, skin biology, skin tumors, and more. Online skin care schools offering programs of study can include tanning and dangers of tanning; camouflage of skin imperfections; aging and conditions of aging; diseases and treatments; and tips for seasonal skin treatment for healthy skin.

Generally, hands-on experience in laboratory course(s) may be required for certification or a degree in this field of study. Be sure to inquire whether certification or a degree in skin care is an option at your school of choice, and whether or not hands-on experience is a requirement for the particular skin care program of study. If you are interested in learning more about Online Skin Care Schools and other types of schools, please search our site for more information and resources.

To apply for UK student visas online, you may be request at some sites to take a free visa assessment test. United Kingdom students may take the test to participate in course studies outside of their area if they are planning to stay in school for more than six months. There are some benefits of applying for UK visas on the Web. Guides and other information are available to help you walk through the steps with easily.

There are some cons, which include visa restrictions. In other words, the UK embassies set a limit on how many students can apply for visas. Tiers are general, which the student is required to pass with a mark of 75, have a Master’s degree and speak fluent English to earn the minimum of 250K pounds under tier one.

Post-study work is for students studying engineering and science in the UK. It falls under SEGS, or Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme. IGS, or International Graduates Scheme, or those working in Scotland schemes may apply for UK student visas by switching to post-study work categories.

Investors can apply if they have 1 millon pounds and 2 million in personal assets. Tier 2 includes students who apply for work permits, changing employment, or who work at an intra-company transfer or ICT. If you apply for a work permit, you must have a job offer and show proof of this offer from the UK company. You will need at least a 50 point score based on your earnings and education to apply. If you are changing careers, you will need to show proof of a UK job offer and have a 50 point score based on your earnings or education.

If you work for an information technology and are considered a foreign employee of a multi-national company and wish to transfer to a United Kingdom office, you may qualify for a UK visa. Tier 4 is designed for a UK student visa, for anyone who holds a visa letter from a United Kingdom education provider. You must show proof of living expenses and maintenance fees to apply.

Tier 5 is for those who fall under the YMS, or Youth Mobility Scheme, which is the group of creative and sports workers. The application is for adults between 18 and 30 years of age from Austria, New Zealand, Japan, or Canada. Family visas, fiance visas, dependency visas, and other UK student visas are available on the Web.
